Airport

There are two points of entry for domestic arrivals: the Gold Coast Airport and Brisbane Domestic Airport. The Gold Coast Airport is located in Coolangatta in the southern part of the Gold Coast, near the NSW border. The airport has recently been revamped; new facilities include bars, al fresco dining, gift shops and retail outlets. Brisbane Airport is approx 1 – 1.5 hours from Surfers Paradise (depending on traffic)

Airport Transfers

Gold Coast Airport:

On arrival at the airport there is a bus transfer available from a tour desk located in the arrivals lounge which will take you to most hotels. Taxi’s are usually plentiful and are metered and drop off at most hotels. These can be booked in advance. Rental cars are available from the airport.

Brisbane Airport:

The tour desk at the airport operates a service between Brisbane and Surfers. The Airtrain (train service) is another option to get to the Gold Coast. Train service runs from the airport and stops at Coomera, Helensvale, Nerang and Robina. Bus connections from Helensvale Station will take you into Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, or a taxi is available from the train station directly to your hotel. Generally it is faster and cheaper to take the Airtrain from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, however you will have to get transport from the Gold Coast train station to your destination. For Surfers Paradsie it is best to get off at the Helensvale station. You do not need to pre book Airtrain – just head up to the station outside of the airport and purchase your ticket

Getting around for families

If you're not bringing a car with you to the Gold Coast, car hire is a good option for exploring the area. Another option is to purchase a Freedom Pass or a Smartpass. This pass provides unlimited travel on the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle and includes door to door* Gold Coast Airport and theme park transfers plus unlimited travel on the Surfside Buslines ( public transport) network. Passes are available for 3, 5 or 7 days.
